Senegal – President Macky Sall’s Victory Confirmed

The country’s electoral commission has provisionally confirmed the re-election of Senegalese President Macky Sall. He will now serve a second and final term, having first been elected to the position in 2012.

According to the commission Sall took 58.27% of the vote, with Idrissa Seck coming second on 20.5% of the vote. Turnout stood at 66.24%. The results mean there is no requirement for a run-off as President Sall won an overall majority.

Runner-up Idrissa Seck has stated that he does not intend to contest the results through the courts. However, former President Wade was among those to criticise the polls, after two major opposition candidates were barred from contesting.
