Zimbabwe – 'Democracy Works' Books Seized
In Zimbabwe the book ‘Democracy Works’ has allegedly been seized by the country’s Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).
The book is co-authored by former finance minister and opposition MP Tendai Biti, alongside former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Dr Greg Mills of the Brenthurst Foundation and Jeffrey Herbst of the American Jewish University.
Commenting on the matter on Twitter, Biti stated “Zimbabwe 18 copies of our book #DemocracyWorks through DHL. We were ridiculously asked to pay duty, which we did. Now the President s Office, a euphemism for the CIO has abducted these books. Who does this?”
The book has been published by Pan Macmillian and is described as a positive commentary on the power of democracy to ensure economic growth and political stability.
